Spiderwire Invisi-Braid
Spider Wire has answered our calls! Finally, a nearly invisible line with the superior strength of braid. That is a true ingredient for success on the water. Confidence booster extraordinaire! You get the point; Spider Wire Invisi-Braid is a must have fishing line for any serious Bass angler. I have been using it this '08 season and so far it has me overwhelmed with its ability to get Bass in my live well. I put it to the ultimate test in one of the clearest pristine lakes in my area, and it not only produced, it out-produced! It is extremely strong, sensitive, and thin. Spider Wire Invisi-Braid is a great asset for the spinning gear fanatic. Now, skipping, wacky worming, shaky rigging,[..]

Carp Fishing in the United States
Carp fishing has long been looked down upon in the U.S. but this is a trend that's rapidly changing. This fish, often scorned at by bass anglers as "trash fish," are gaining popularity among many anglers for their large weight and the quality of fight that these large fresh water fish put up. Carp are slowly gaining a positive reputation in as one of the fiercest freshwater fighters, which can offer a challenge to the best of anglers. Though they were once considered bottom feeders, it is now known that carp each much of the same diet as trout and bass. In more states than ever carping is becoming a more accepted form of fishing, much as it has been in Europe. In many places in the[..]
Cabin Rentals on Texas Lakes
Renting a cabin for you andyour family for a Texas fishing trip can be an exciting adventure.Enjoying the rustic atmosphere of a cabin versus staying in a motel can make your fishing trip all the more memorable. Lake Rental cabins are more expensive than traditional accommodations, but well worth the extra expense. When searching for lake cabins for rent, first determine your budget becausethere are upscale marinas and campgrounds that are somewhat out of reach formost families. These we'll leave for another discussion. The cabins for rent thatare appealing to most families are the ones with a lake view, somewhat secludedin that you are not sharing your vacation with a host of neighbors,[..]
Ultra Light Fishing - I Bet you Don't Know What...
So you think you have done ultra-light fishing- I bet you haven't. I say that becauseof my trip to the World Championships of fishing in Coimbra, Portugal where Ilearned the true meaning of ultralight. When I fished against 185 anglers from 37different nations, I learned that ultralight meant line that is around 1/2 pound, fishing a hook the size of an eyelash, using a bait the thickness of 2 eyelashes -ultralight ! Ok, so you have not fished ultralight, I win the bet. When I fished in the World Championships, I too thought a little 4' ultralight with 4 lb. test or wow, 2 lb. testwas the stealth way to fish. This was quickly dispelled as I fished local competitionswith 1 lb. fishing line[..]

Why are these two doing so good lately and what is their secrets? Well, for one they fish mostly high pressured lakes and second, they know what the fish are striking on and feel more comfortable when fishing on lakes that are less pressured like here in the United States. Just look at Omori, this 34[..]

About Bass
If you want to catch more and bigger largemouth bass you must know some basic information about their biology. Here you will learn everything about largemouth bass from how their metabolism works to if they posses colour vision. This is extremely valuable information for a serious bass angler, or serious bass angler wanna be. Metabolism: Bass are cold blooded, meaning their metabolism is controlled by water temperature. When the water goes below, oh lets say around the 50 degree Fahrenheit mark, the bass' metabolism slows down making the fish not eat as much. When the water temperature goes above the 50 degree Fahrenheit mark bass get more and more active due to their metabolism. The[..]
In this article I will outline the most effective styles of crankbaits for catching early season bass. Whether you are fishing for large or small mouth bass certain styles of crankbaits perform better early in the season than others. When I refer to the term "early season bass fishing" I'm referring specifically to months of late March, April, May, and early June. The three styles of crankbaits that will be discussed should be a part of any serious bass fisherman's repertoire. One key to remember is that bass don't become truly "aggressive" until the water temperature hits 55 degrees or more, so keeping an eye on the water temperature is a must in the spring of the year. The highpoint of[..]
The Elusive Striped Bass
Striped bass, or "stripers," are among the most sought after fish by bass anglers. Striped bass breed in fresh water, but spend their adult lives in salt water. They are also able to live exclusively in fresh water in some inland water bodies. Four important areas with breeding stocks of striped bass are Chesapeake Bay, Cape Cod, the Hudson River and the Delaware river. All these areas are popular for bass fishing, especially the Chesapeake, which is one of the largest breeding areas. Striped bass have been introduced by state game and fish commissions into many reservoirs to the delight of anglers. These choice fish have also been hybridized with other kinds of bass to produce[..]
I have been fishing with an old friend lately named Joe. I have known him since he was born 38 years ago, 39 tomorrow. Happy Birthday Joe! We have been fishing at a lake I love to fish, mainly because of the big bass there. If you're a Bass Fishing Newsletter Subscriber, you know where I'm talking about. Anyway, if you look in most peoples tackle boxes you will find normal color lures like grape, black, brown, purple, and the normal colors for lures. Joe is a different story...... When you look in Joe's tackle box you see some of the ugliest lures you have ever seen. Lures like a bright green tube that you almost need sunglasses to look at it. Or his green frog that is so far from any[..]
Lake Cumberland Fishing
The beautiful thing about fishing is you can almost always find a good spot. Lake Cumberland fishing is the way to go in Kentucky. The stripped bass is a fish that lives most of the year in the ocean, but in the spring moves into fresh water rivers to spawn. As an experiment, many years ago, some of these fish were stocked into inland lakes. The experiment was quite a success. Locked into the lakes and safe from the natural predators of the ocean waters, the stripped bass flourished and many grew into monster fish far surpassing the normal size of their spawning ocean going cousins. One such lake where the stripped bass have flourished is Lake Cumberland in Southern Kentucky. This[..]
Fishing Lake Cumberland
You might have heard of Lake Cumberland as being a great boating destination. This lake is a great boating destination and it has even been mentioned on television programs for some of the house boats that are on this lake. While, house boating and power boating is popular here, Lake Cumberland is also known for its fishing. The lake is located in southern Kentucky and because of the warmer weather down here, people enjoy a very long fishing and boating season. Some fishing guides operate year-round. Most fishermen come here to fish for striped bass. The lake has more than 1,200 miles of shoreline with an average depth of 90 feet at summer pool and the striped bass are loaded in[..]
Bait casting reels not only come in different variations and sizes, they also come in different gear ratios. This has become more apparent in recent years. For me, a fast gear ratio of 7.1:1 is quite handy. As a tournament angler I know that time is definitely money. So with that said, when I pitch and flip I like the high 7 ratios because after the initial working of the bait I want that bait in as quick as possible in time for the next pocket. Seconds on the water can mean many minutes, not to mention the dreaded 'tired wrist syndrome'. I know a few anglers that don't like the faster ratios and stick with the 6 and under speeds. It really is a matter of personal preference. All ratios[..]
Does Rod Size Matter?
Rod size, big or small, can give us Bass anglers another edge for success on the water. It could be the difference in not only comfort, but practicality in its usage. Again, every little bit counts especially when ounces can mean the difference in tournament success. There are different sizes for good reason. Mind you, an angler's height plays a major role as well, but overall rod size differences still apply. For example, in dunking, as long a rod as possible is preferred so that the reach is there. A longer rod is also handy for pitching short distances which is the norm and helps create that all important pendulum effect for a stealth approach. Skipping is much easier done with a[..]
10 Reasons To Go Fishing
For me there doesn't have to be a reason to go fishing. Fishing itself is enough I'll just go at the drop of a hat but for those of you who may need a reason, here are ten. Who knows, when you need an excuse to wet a line one of them might come in handy. So here they are, in no particular order. 1) To get out in nature. We all get caught up in the day to day inertia that we call life, and sometimes just need to get back to nature. It helps restore the soul, as many poets have suggested. 2) To get your mind off of other things. This is what I used to use fishing for, before I learned some other techniques for clearing my mind. But spending a day waist deep in a river still serves[..]
Fishing sunglasses were not so popular in the earlier times but now their need and importance is being felt, as we get to know more about the advantages of using such sunglasses. Many people still remain confused about the actual use of such fishing sunglasses and believe that fishes might be seen easily when these sunglasses are used. If you are also in doubt, about the actual use of these wholesale sunglasses, this information might be of your help. Fishing sunglasses offer excellent protection from the rays of the sun when you are fishing. Imagine a situation when you have to tackle the bright sun while fishing - will you be able to concentrate on your fishing, when the sunlight is[..]
Fishing on the Wild Side in California's Sierra...
I call it Fishing on the Wild Side. It is my version of adding a little extra adventure to a fishing outing. Fishing the wild side has taken me on some unforgettable escapades, sometimes incredible, occasionally a little frightening, but never boring. The first step is to scour a topographical map of an area you want to visit. For me that is almost always California's rugged Sierra Nevada. Before long I spot a lake, or possibly a stretch of river, that matches my criteria of what constitutes a good wild side fishing destination. My favorite lakes or streams are the ones that, because of their location, are overlooked my most anglers. Sometimes they have no name. Often they are small.[..]
The Most Effective Trout Rig
If you're reading this article, you must be a trout angler; otherwise you obviously wouldn't read an article titled The Most Effective Trout Rig, right? Well, in this article I'm going to outline the trout rig I've been using to catch trout (and other fish) for more than 20 years. The rig and technique were taught to me many years ago by my fishing mentor, who has since passed on, and was the best trout angler I've since known. This man was able to catch trophy trout from rivers and streams that no one believed that trout that size swam in. And guess what rig he used to catch these monster trout? Yep you guessed it, the one that you're going to learn in this article. I'm also going to[..]

Fishing can make things so relaxing. You get to be out on a clear blue lake and float with the movement of the waves. You will find that you will not have a care in the world while you are out on the lake. Of course, this is a fishing trip, not a boating outing. You can go out a float on your boat anytime you want to. Today, you will want to catch some fish. Fishing organizations can help you to achieve that goal. There is no problem going boating, but fishing is not the easiest thing in the world. You will want a little bit of help when it comes to fishing for your favorite species of fish. Fishing at Manitoba's Rock Lake
Rock Lake is a few miles west of Pilot Mound, Manitoba. It was made by damming off the Pembina River. Coincidentally, you can also fish at the dam. The dam isn't large, but it's a beautiful little spot. Most of the fish caught there are bullheads, but they can provide some fun. Rock Lake itself has two public launches. One can be found at the east end of the lake and the other at the west end of the lake. The launch at the east end is fairly shallow. There is no dock - you back your boat into the water. The area around this launch is also pretty good for fishing from shore. Most of what is caught from the shore is pike, and the lake boasts some fairly large and feisty ones. Because the[..]

Montana Fishing Guide - Following the...
Montana fishing seasons and hatches vary slightly from year to year but always follow the same annual pattern. The early fishing is dominated by aquatic insect hatches and the timing of these hatches varies a few weeks from year to year based on water flows and temperatures. April-mid May Pre runoff produces great fishing in Montana with little competition. This is a great time of the year to fish some of the best hatches that the state has to offer including the blue winged olives that hatch prolifically on cloudy days during April and Mid May, the march brown (large mayfly that moves big fish in late April early May), the skwala stonefly and the mothers day caddis (early May). I'm an accomplished bass angler. I fish tournaments all over the west. But today that's not my focus, it's fishing with kids. You see to me kids are the future of my sport. I also believe my sport can help teach kids to be better people. I truly believe teaching kids to fish will make them better people. Lets start out by saying catching is very important when taking kids fishing. Having fun is equally as important. The kids don't have patience but you must. Don't expect them sit and be quiet. There are many myths about fishing that don't fit in with your day on the lake with kids. Like being quiet fish can't here whats going on out of the water. Throwing rocks can actually attract[..]
Shallow lakes and reservoirs often have featureless basins and shallow shorelines. You can catch channel catfish by drift fishing the large basins using cut baits such as gizzard shad, creek chubs, and shiners as you catfish bait selection. A good bait fishing catfish rig for drift fishing would be a three way swivel rig. Use a sinker large enough to stay on the bottom and a 5/0 to 7/0 hook. To fish shallow reservoirs and lakes at night head to the shallow shorelines because bait fish will concentrate at night there. If you are fishing in a boat locate edge lines where soft pan bottom turns into sand or rock. Drop anchor here and cast your catfish bait towards the shore line. You can[..]

Fishing For The Whole Family
ople love to go fishing, instead of playing tennis or golf. Others make it their primary sport activity together with their families and friends to relieve boredom and stress. Surveys say that more than 50 million Americans love to go fishing and make it their lifestyle option instead of other sports. In Alabama, fishing represents a substantial impact on the state economy. Hundreds of millions of dollars are represented and about 20,000 people list fishing as their source of livelihood. However, most people consider it as a form of relaxation and a family activity. In general, it is a lifestyle option. In the book titled "The Incomplete Psychology of Everyday Fishing;" psychologist Paul[..]

Lake of the Ozarks - Things You Need to Know...
Camping at the Lake of the Ozarks can be a way to have a very nice vacation at a famous Midwestern resort area, and save quite a bit of money. However, unlike some other lakes that are owned by the Army Corps of Engineers, there is not nearly as much publicly owned land around this lake as some other lakes. If the main activity you wish to enjoy is swimming or other water related activities, finding a campground with access to the lake is paramount. The purpose of this article is not to put in a plug for any private campgrounds, but to give general information on where to look, what general price structure you will be find, and what the general atmosphere is in these areas. Public[..]
Fishing Topwater in Lily Pads
In 2004, I fished more lily pads than ever before? Why? Well, because I caught fish in them. I probably caught over 100 fish in the lily pads this year alone. Two were over 5 pounds and one over 6 pounds. So what did I do different this year? I'm glad you asked......I used a lure called the scum frog, green and white, not only that but I fished it different than ever before. You see, I used to go slow, I mean real slow, my way of thinking was that even though the bass is a fast swimmer, he would have a hard time catching up with the lure through the pads, if I retrieved it fast. Not only that, but, I wanted to put it in his face a lot longer by going slow on my retrieve. Well, then[..]
Drop-Shotting For Picky-Overfished Bass
There is a fairly new technique when it comes to bass fishing but it works great especially when bass are under a lot of pressure, it's called drop-shotting. When you see other fishermen using worms and fishing the edges of creek channels, try this and fish the bottom of the channels instead of the edges. It's also good around boat docks and bridges and in shallow water when the bass are bedding. When fishing the bottom of a channel try a small worm hook with a 3/16 ounce sinker. If you have one already a bullet sinker you are using for worm fishing works great. Don't drag the bait or hop it, shake it, you know jiggle it in place. When bass are on their beds try flipping a tube with[..]
To say that fishing from the shore is like going to the beach and not swimming, is an understatement. However, some of my earliest and most memorable fishing experiences involve being on the bank. Obviously, fishing from a boat is a better and more preferred method, just for the simple fact that you can cast to the bank and not from it. However, if you can find the perfect spot, you can still "walk" away with an enjoyable experience. Part of that, comes from knowing were and sometimes how to cast. Telling you how to cast can get you started, but you must get past the fear and feeling of loss that comes with losing a lure or a rig. It happens, get over it and cast. If you think[..]
Many anglers think that they can get by with only one fishing rod. While this may be true if you fish for the same species of fish in the same conditions all the time, who among us does that? If you're anything like me, you like to fish in rivers, lakes, and streams, while maybe even mixing in a touch of saltwater fishing. Fishing in different bodies of water, calls for different fishing rods. And what about different species of fish. The same rod shouldn't be used for trout fishing on one trip and the trolling for walleye on another. You need to have separate rods for separate situations. For example, my favorite type of angling is trout fishing in a certain river in Montana. I[..]
Rapala R Type Rods
I've always used and trusted Rapala throughout my fishing years and I must say their new R Type rods are a great addition to my Bass fishing collection! The Rapala R Type rods are nicely balanced, strong and light. You no longer have to spend a fortune for these important rod characteristics because Rapala made it affordable. It was designed by Canadian anglers for Canadian anglers and the kind folks at Rapala made it happen. I think these rods are going to be a big seller because they sure sold me on them. They felt great while Pike fishing thus far and with Bass season just around the corner; let's just say that I know which combo will be throwing the grubs this coming month! While[..]
Effects of Lake Turnover on Fishing
Lake turnover is an interesting phenomenon typical of most lakes that experience winter ice-over conditions. The best fly fishing lakes in the Kamloops area are no exception. There are two times during the year that small lakes experience "turnover", in the spring and in the fall. In most cases, it's the spring turnover that is of most interest to the fly fishermen who are dying to get going with their season. So what is Lake Turnover? Lake turnover usually occurs 1-2 weeks after the ice comes off the lake in the spring. The sun melts the ice and warms the surface water until it eventually reaches it's most dense state st 4C (39F). This most dense or heavier water now follows the laws of[..]
Sea Fishing Tackle - Mind Boggling Bait Clips
There are many bait clips on the market. Everyone including myself seems to be asked which is the best bait clip and what makes it different from the rest. Well in this article I will go through the pros and cons of bait clips and how they may improve your fishing. What is a bait clip? A bait clip is a device that allows you to clip down your snoods or trace lines on your rigs thus reducing the risk of tangles and also to present baits effectively at distance. The use without a bait clip can result in your bait being thrown off the hook during a power cast or even worse hitting the water's surface and coming off the hook without realising and then you sit there watching your rod tip for[..]

Noodling - Adventures In Bare-Handed Fishing!
It's an age-old fishing technique that my uncle taught me down in the Ozarks of southern Missouri - Noodling. Noodling means catching catfish with nothing more than your bare hand and quick reflexes. No matter what you call it, tickling, hogging, grabbing, dogging or noodling, catching catfish with your bare hands is a truly man-against-nature experience! You can only imagine that this is the way our caveman ancestors must have got their fish suppers! Imagine yourself with a hand full of catfish guts, twisting and turning to dislodge that whale of a cat you got down there! Okay, let's take a step back and ask - Exactly what is noodling? Well, let me break it down... Step 1 - Go to a[..]
What Line is Best For Catfish?
In general the fishing line used for catfish fishing is the last thing that gets attention when discussing what to use for catfishing. The focus is usually on the terminal gear and the rod and reel. But if you don't have the right line I guarantee you will lose a lot catfish you should have had. There are a few things you should consider before purchasing your fishing line. Catfish fishing is supposed to be a sport. If catfishing is a sport then hooking a fish and just hauling it in doesn't feel like a fair fight. For it to be sport there has to be a fight to see if your skill can win over sheer power and land that big cat. On the hand there is an old adage, "don't bring a knife to a[..]
Extreme Fishing
What's extreme fishing? Only the most exciting, most thrilling, most fun water sport ever created - that's what!a) Extreme fishing is fishing with a shot of adrenaline!b) Extreme fishing is regular fishing on steroids! Trout and salmon fishing in small water (such as streams and rivers) is extreme fishing! Ice fishing is extreme fishing! Noodling (the practice of fishing for Catfish using only your bare hands) is extreme fishing! Extreme fishing uses the same techniques and methods as recreational fishing - it simply takes it all one step further in the search for bigger, rarer, and more challenging fish. Fish such as: Peacock Bass Masheer Goonch Tiger Fish And many others! Fly-fishing[..]
You've Gotta Be Nuts To Noodle For Catfish!
The first time I experienced the fear and excitement of watching someone noodle for catfish, it scared the heck out of me. Noodling, or grabblin as it's called in some circles, is fishing for large catfish with nothing but your hands and maybe a pint of Jack Daniels. It's a dangerous sport! That day I was fishing on the Tennessee River for anything that would bite. About a hundred yards downstream from where I sat, there were two men looking up and down the bank searching for something. As I watched, one of them waded into the water with his clothes on, and began slowly walking down the bank, feeling for something on the bottom of the river. His head started gradually disappearing[..]
The Right Catfish Hooks to Increase Your Success
Knowing how to select the right catfish hooks for the type of catfish you want to catch is very important. Fishing for a 2lb channel is vastly different than fishing for a 50lb blue or flathead catfish. The sizes I use range from 2 to 2/0 in most waters but there are times when you can use larger hooks up to 6/0 effectively. I usually fish with a 2/0 baitholder hook as I can get both table fare and some good sized cats without having to worry about the hook failing. When I am at a location, such as below a dam, that has proven to produce monster cats consistently I will use a 4/0 hook. The way I select the right catfish hook is easy. In waters where I am unsure of what to use I always[..]
Perch Bait Fishing For Catfish
Every fisherman or woman has their own ideals and different techniques for fishing and trying to hook the biggest one yet. There are many different kinds of catfish bait to choose. However, here in the country we do not rely on store bought baits and formulas. This is the way that my dad taught me how to fish for catfish and it works every time. The first thing you have to do is to catch some perch they are all different sizes and colors. All you need is a small fishing pole or rod and reel. Then take a small piece of worm on a tiny hook with a bobber or cork on the rig and a tiny weight. Then catch as many perch as you can. Once you have quite a few you can start fishing for the big[..]
